Independent provider of higher education, University Centre Quayside (UCQ) launches the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA). This is at its six regional centres in Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester and Newcastle.

UCQ is one of the first in a new breed of independent higher education institutes, launching the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA).

The Act drives innovation, and stimulates competition in the sector. It also raises quality standards and aligns higher education with employer needs.

Nick Mapletoft, Principal and CEO of UCQ, said:

“Our CMDA provides a link between higher education and the corporate world. And also the potential it brings to businesses across the country.”

With a programme duration of up to three years, the UCQ CMDA combines academic rigour and real world business know-how. We tailor it to an employer’s specific requirements. The entire £27,000 course cost can be wholly funded utilising payments made by businesses to the Government’s Apprenticeship Levy. Employers that have exhausted funds in their account will receive 90% of the cost of any further apprenticeship training.

We give flexibility to students who cannot attend taught sessions. This includes UCQ regional centres, teaching at an employer facility and live webinars. Meanwhile, UCQ provides each student with mentors who work alongside them and their employer for the duration of the course. This sets out the best possible programme.

Stuart Cameron, managing director of UCQ’s commercial operations, added:

“There is a vast pool of great talent in UK managers. However, according to research undertaken by the CMI four out of five British managers hold no formal qualifications in management. This under-investment is a key reason for the UK’s lagging levels of productivity. It is also a major factor behind the introduction of the CMDA.”

“We aim to help employers drive business performance and improve results through the development of existing and prospective managers. We developed the CMDA with specialists who understand leadership and management realities.”

Alex Muir, relationship manager for the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), said: “We are the only UK chartered professional body dedicated to promoting the highest standards of management and leadership excellence. We’re delighted to be working with UCQ.”

“The CMDA offers the triple guarantee of a quality degree, on-the-job experience and also a professional pathway for future development.”
