Learning and Skills Teacher (Level 5)

This Level 5 Learning and Skills Teacher Apprenticeship combines hands-on experience with academic study, focusing on the theories of teaching and learning.  It is designed for those currently working, or aspiring to work, in Further Education and Skills, encompassing roles in vocational education, training, coaching and mentoring.

The programme aims to enhance your professional teaching and learning expertise.  You will develop your skills in planning, designing and delivering educational content, becoming a highly reflective practitioner.  Supported by experienced teachers with extensive industry knowledge, you will engage with educational theories and practices, learning how to apply them effectively in your own teaching.

Throughout the apprenticeship you will explore techniques for designing, delivering, assessing and evaluating learning.

The programme includes:

  • Learning within the workplace
  • Development of new Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs)

Apprentices completing this programme will receive:

  • Level 5 TQUK Diploma in Education and Training
  • Learning and Skills Teacher Apprenticeship

Apprentices will undertake a programme of study in a suitable teaching environment which enables the development of teaching and learning practices, before progressing through the Gateway to End Point Assessment (EPA).

You will develop new knowledge, skills and behaviours throughout your apprenticeship as required within the apprenticeship standard.

The apprenticeship is delivered and assessed using a range of methods and activities using a hybrid model which can include interactive live online sessions, practice coaching and mentoring sessions, assignments, projects, case studies, reports, work-product evidence, self-directed study and observations within the workplace.

The apprenticeship at a glance

Duration: 18 months then end point assessment (based on employment of at least 30 hours per week).

Starts: Throughout the year.

Suitable for: Current and new employees in a role that will enable teaching practice.

Costs: Payable by the employer through the apprenticeship levy or co-funded (5%).  There are no further costs required for resources, teaching, assessing.  You will need access to ICT to undertake your studies.

Entry requirements: Working in an appropriate role/organisation, 19+.  Applicants must have maths and English at Level 2 eg functional skills, GCSE, O’Levels or equivalent.

“Off the job” element: All delivery sessions and workshops plus activities including, assignments, case studies, reflection, work-product evidence, and tutorials.

Support for students: Dedicated assessor for the duration of the programme.  Access to range of e-learning resources.

Support for employers: UCQ account manager for the duration of programme with practical experience of business management and leadership

Eligibility: Individuals holding existing qualifications may join, providing they are not sector-related.

Assessment: There are no exams, successful completion of the apprenticeship is entirely based upon the following assessments:

  • Knowledge – assignments
  • Skills and Behaviours – Self-reflection, peer and line manager reviews, witness testimonies, assessor observations within the workplace, work-product evidence, Personal and Professional Development Plans
  • End-point assessment – Observation of Teaching Practice, Portfolio of evidence, and Professional Discussion.
