Self Harm and Suicide Prevention and Awareness
Course Overview
This qualification is aimed at anyone seeking to improve their understanding and awareness of suicide and self-harm. The knowledge individuals will gain is not sector-specific but can be applied to a broad range of personal and professional situations.
You will complete the following units:
Unit 1: Introduction to suicide and self-harm awareness
Including understanding of what is meant by self- harm and suicide, the triggers which might cause someone to self-harm or attempt suicide and understand media and societal attitudes to self-harm and suicide.
Unit 2: Recognise the signs of suicide and self-harm in individuals
Including understanding how to initially approach someone who may be self-harming or considering suicide.
Unit 3: The principles of suicide and self-harm prevention
Including understanding the importance of family and friend support in the prevention of self-harm and suicide and knowing support and treatment options available to individuals and families in relation to self-harm and suicide
Unit 4: Support for individuals when dealing with grief and suicide.
This course is aimed at individuals who may support others who are at risk of self-harming, along with individuals in a educational setting, healthcare setting, volunteer role, probation services or working with vulnerable individuals. This course can allow you to progress to complete the Awareness of Mental Health course.
In addition to the skills you will develop throughout your distance learning programme you will also develop a range of transferable skills including communication skills, time management and digital skills.

Course Information
Title: Self Harm and Suicide Prevention & Awareness
Duration: Up to 10 weeks, however, flexible to meet individual need.
Upon successful completion of a programme, students will achieve the TQUK Level 2 qualification

Start date are flexible; students can enrol throughout the year and study at a time and place to suit their circumstances.
