Safe Handling of Medication in Health & Social Care

Course Overview

This course covers the different types of medication and what they are used for. You will also gain an understanding of how to store and dispose of medicines in a safe way, how to administer medicines safely and how to ensure that record keeping and audits are completed correctly.

You will complete the following units:

Unit 1: Understand medication and prescriptions

Unit 2: Supply, storage and disposal of medication

Unit 3: Understand the requirements for the safe administration of medication

Unit 4: Record keeping and audit processes for medication

This course is suitable for individuals working in a healthcare setting, and also for individuals who support others with administering medication.  Learners can become competent and refresh their knowledge and skills. Learners can also progress to Prevention and Control of Infection and safeguarding courses.

In addition to the skills you will develop throughout your distance learning programme you will also develop a range of transferable skills including communication skills, time management and digital skills.

Course Information

Title: Understanding Safe Handling of Medication in Health & Social Care


   Duration: Up to 10 weeks, however, flexible to meet individual need.  


   Upon successful completion of a programme, students will achieve the TQUK Level 2 qualification
