But perhaps most importantly, the learner has support from classmates too, creating an environment where everyone succeeds together.
In Darlington, tutor Gordon has been working with students requiring support in writing and spelling skills, including some with no formal qualifications in English and maths. Rather than seeing this as a barrier, Gordon uses scribing techniques, asking assessment questions, and carefully recording students’ verbal responses, prompting for additional detail where needed. This approach allows students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding without written language standing in their way.
